A wave includes ships from multiple factions that all release at the same time. Most factions get new ships three or four times a year in what are known as waves. Once you have your starting squadrons together, the next step is keeping up with future releases. This will give you an incredible base from which to expand, while also giving you plenty of squad options up front. Whenever they release (not yet available), we recommend adding one TIE/vn Silencer and one TIE/sf. We are going to make specific starting recommendations for each faction below, but you can find the full range of available X-Wing ships sortable by faction on our store.įinally, for the First Order we recommend three TIE/fo. With the Empire and Rebellion, you will only need a few more ships beyond the Core Set to build a full squad. Most factions will have new ships released every 3-4 months! No matter what faction you want to play, the best way to start is by buying a core of ships that will give you plenty of options for building a squad up front and the ability to easily add new ships as they release in the future. Since the Core Set features ships from the Galactic Empire and Rebellion factions, these are the easiest to expand play after buying a Core Set. When you build a squad ( covered in the next chapter), your pilots will all be from the same faction.

Speaking of factions, it is worth understanding that there are seven factions in X-Wing Second Edition. It may seem like a bit of a waste to buy more of the same ships, but two core sets is a great way to start building your Rebellion and Galactic Empire factions! This will give each player their own damage deck and template set. While you only need one core set to play X-Wing, you will need a core set for every player.
